Safety Information for Visitors
Northumbria Gliding Club welcomes visitors who would like to find out more about our gliding activities and the gliding movement generally, however an active airfield has many potential hazards. In order to ensure your own safety and the safety of others, we strongly advise you to take the following precautions.
Caution: Your vehicle and household insurance may not cover you while on the airfield, you will therefore be personally liable for any accident damage that you cause.
- All visitors to proceed to the club house or control point (red and white caravan) and report their presence to a club member.
- All visitors must be supervised in the vicinity of the launch/landing area.
- Visitors partaking in trial lessons shall be accompanied onto the strip by a club member or receive a safety briefing before proceeding onto the strip among gliders and/or tugs.
- Visitors are requested not to enter the hanger unless accompanied by a club member.
- Children under 8 yrs must be accompanied by an adult.
- Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times and their owners are responsible for the removal of any fouling.
- Be aware of the hazards of using video cameras in the launching and landing areas, due to the changed perspective of events seen through the viewfinder rather than with the naked eye Please seek advice before using such equipment in the vicinity of aircraft.
- Be alert at all times for flying cables and aircraft and also for tractors involved in ground operations.
